Refund Policy

What happens to your money if a project changes or stops. The short version: you only lose a deposit if you cancel after work has started.

Last updated 2 November 2026

  • Deposit comes off the bill

If the project goes ahead, every bit of it is taken off your final invoice.

  • Back within 14 days

When a refund is due, it goes back to the card you paid with.

  • Your rights stay

Nothing here removes the refund rights the law gives you.

  • The project goes ahead

The full deposit comes off your final invoice.

  • Either of us decides not to go ahead before work starts

You get the full deposit back within 14 days.

  • I can't start, or I don't deliver the agreed scope

You get the full deposit back within 14 days.

  • You cancel after work has started

The deposit isn't returned, because it covers the time reserved and the work already done.

Work has started once I've confirmed your start date and begun on the agreed scope. I'll always tell you in writing when that happens.

02

Project payments

In short You pay for work done. If a project ends early, you get what exists so far.

If a project ends early, you pay for the work done up to that date, and I hand over the work in its current state. Anything you've paid beyond that is refunded within 14 days. If the work I delivered doesn't match the agreed scope, tell me and I'll fix it during the bug-fix period in your quote.

03

If you're buying as a consumer

In short Buying for yourself in the UK or EU? You usually get 14 days to change your mind.

Most of my clients are businesses, and this section doesn't apply to them. If you're buying for yourself and you live in the UK or EU, you can usually cancel within 14 days of agreeing to the project, without giving a reason, and get your money back. If you ask me to start inside those 14 days and then cancel, you pay for the work done up to that point, and I refund the rest. The Terms of Service have the full wording.

04

Helm subscriptions

In short Helm has its own rules, and you can cancel it at any time.

If your project runs on Helm, your subscription follows Helm's own terms. You can cancel at any time and keep access until the end of the billing period. Past periods aren't refunded, except where the law requires it.

05

How to ask for a refund

In short Email me. No forms, and you'll get an answer from me.

Email [email protected] with your name and the email you used to pay. I'll reply within 2 working days. Refunds go back to the original card through Stripe, and your bank may take a few more days to show it.

Not sure what something means?

Ask me, and you'll get a straight answer from me.
